Marriage Counseling - Should We do It?

Let’s say you’ve been fighting with your spouse a bit lately. Ok, a lot. Are you considering marriage counseling? How do you know when it’s time to make that call to get some help? Here are a few signs to look for.

Grudge Holding

If you or your spouse is holding a grudge from a fight that you had back in 1984, then it might be time for some marriage counseling. Holding grudges only brings bitterness and it’s very hard to heal a relationship built on spite. If you are holding grudges against each other, it’s time to make the call.

Violence

If at any time, your fights get out of control and either you or your spouse has gotten violent, it’s time for marriage counseling. If he will hit the wall with his fist, he will eventually hit you with it. If you are sure that you want to stick it out, then counseling is a must if you want to make it work.

Shouting

A little yelling every now and then is one thing, but if you find yourself shouting at your spouse all the time, then it’s time for some marriage counseling. You need to learn how to communicate with each other without shouting. Communication is a two way street and you certainly can’t hear each other talk if both of you are shouting.
